How to visit
Bassano del Grappa

Everything within walking distance

Bassano is an hour from Venice, thirty minutes from Vicenza and ten from the motorway. Leave the car in one of the ring car parks and walk in: from the bridge to the squares, from the squares to the castle, everything lies within a few minutes.

A31 motorway

"Bassano del Grappa" exit of the A31 "Valdastico", linking Vicenza to Trentino. Ten minutes from the exit to the historic centre.

By train

Venice–Trento line

1 hour from Venice S. Lucia, 50 min from Padua, 35 from Vicenza. The station is a 10-minute walk from the bridge.

By air

Airports

Venice Marco Polo (60 km), Treviso Canova (50 km), Verona Catullo (110 km). Buses and trains from Venice.

By bike

Valsugana cycle path

Bassano is the mid-point of the Trento–Venice route. From Trento in 2 days, from Venice in a day and a half, on flat tracks.

Pedestrian centre

The centre has camera-controlled limited-traffic zones: better to leave the car at the outer car parks and walk.

Where to leave the car

Car parks

Bassano has a ring of car parks around the centre, minutes on foot from the bridge. The golden rule: park outside the limited-traffic zone and walk.

Paid

  • Le Piazze — about 420 spaces with barriers, open 24h, paid 8am–8pm. About 7 minutes on foot via Via Roma.
  • Il Ponte — underground car park with 279 spaces, the closest to the bridge and the historic centre.

Free

  • Il Prato 1 — 294 free spaces, fairly close to the centre.
  • Via De Gasperi — 249 free spaces with a shuttle to the centre (€0.70 one way, €1.20 return).
  • Via Boschetto (110 spaces) and Largo Parolini (98 spaces).

The Old Bridge: cross it on foot, pause at the parapet, visit the Alpini Museum and the Tavern.

Bassano until evening

Museo Civico (Jacopo Bassano and Canova) and the climb up the Civic Tower for the view.

Lunch in the centre: baccalà, bigoli, or white asparagus in season.

Ezzelini Castle and the Cathedral of Santa Maria in Colle; then the Viale dei Martiri along the walls.

evening

An aperitif on the bridge at sunset. In summer, a show of the Operaestate Festival.

The cultural summer

Operaestate Festival

From late June to mid-September Bassano and the foothills become a great stage: dance, theatre, music and contemporary circus, with over 110 shows and hundreds of artists from around the world.

Among the most scenic events, the concerts on the Old Bridge with fireworks over the Brenta, open-air opera and the B.Motion programme of contemporary creation in late August.

Through the year

  • Spring — season of the White Asparagus of Bassano DOP, fairs and dedicated menus.
  • Summer — Operaestate Festival and evening markets.
  • September — commemorations on the Grappa and at the Viale dei Martiri.
  • Autumn — mushrooms, chestnuts and the new grappa.
  • Winter — markets, nativity scenes and the nearby Asiago ski season.
